Clari / 2012–2025
From the garage to the enterprise.
Thirteen years helping build a company, a product, and a design organization.
I joined Clari in 2012, working alongside its founders in a garage to shape the earliest product experiences. Over thirteen years, my role grew from hands-on design to leading the design organization.
This story follows three stages: establishing the product, building the team and systems, and bringing product and brand together as VP of Design.

01 / Establishing the experience
Building something from nothing.
Clari’s early product had to turn an ambitious idea into workflows people could use. Working directly with the founders, I helped define the first interfaces with limited resources and few established conventions.
I worked closely with product and engineering, exploring workflows and translating decisions into the product experience. The small team kept design and implementation in direct conversation.
This stage established the first product experiences and visual foundations—the starting point for the product and design practice that followed.

02 / Design at scale
From individual contributionto organizational capability.
As the product and team grew, maintaining quality through individual effort became harder. The design organization needed shared foundations and repeatable ways of working.
As Head of Design, I built the team and developed design systems and practices alongside product and engineering. I focused on component foundations, common interaction patterns, and how work moved from design into implementation.
The work established a shared design language across the evolving product, supported by a design organization rather than a small group making every decision.

Consistency is a byproduct.Alignment is the goal.
03 / Executive design leadership
One company. One coherent experience.
At enterprise scale, product and brand involved more teams and more customer touchpoints. My responsibility as VP of Design was to connect those experiences without losing the depth the product needed.
I led product and brand design, working across disciplines to align visual direction, interaction patterns, and priorities. That included helping teams make decisions across product complexity and customer communication.
Product and brand came under a shared design direction, connecting the mature product experience with the company’s identity and external presence.

What thirteen years taught me
Design leadership is about what you enable.
Thirteen years at Clari taught me when to change my own role: from making the first interfaces, to building a team, to helping multiple disciplines work toward a common direction.
The lasting responsibility was to develop the people and practices that could carry the work forward. Each stage required a different kind of contribution.
The best design leaders don't just create great work. They create the conditions for great work to happen.
Let's connect.
I'm always interested in thoughtful conversations about design, technology, and what comes next.
